Beyond the realm of reality

What lies beyond the realm of reality ?

The medical term is anaesthesia and doctors and nurses go through a very lengthy process of learning the behaviour of the body and the mind and it's ability to cope with high doses of chemicals or gases   unfamiliar to the human mind and body before they can  practice in the medical field as anaesthesiologist.

The medical intent of being put to sleep is to render the patient unaware of sensations of pain. It is the scientific art of separating the conscience from the body and the mind. That may seem unbelievable at first but it is what it is. Most people know of the alcohol induced condition called a "black out".  In this altered state of mind people under the influence of alcohol do the unbelievable because "Doctor Me" has drugged them to the point where the conscience is numbed and the normal senses react without conscience.

A drug is a drug

A drug is a drug whether it's legal or not. Some legal drugs are much more potent than street drugs.

The medical team will decide what is best for the client. Interestingly enough, anaesthesia can be either general where it effects a specific area or it can be systemic where the whole body is rendered insensitive. There is likely no closer place to death than in a state in of anaesthesia.

The modern medicine man is the shaman of old.

The difference being in the licenses that allows the professional to practice.

Hypnosis is another method of messing with the mind and body. Acupuncture is another.

The Doctors

This leads me to wonder what goes on in the mind of the professional anaesthesiologist. Many years ago I started reading the books of a little known author called Sean Costello. Doctor Costello is an anaesthesiologist who studied the reality of psychology but who got entangled in the more mystical realm of the paranormal.

The Doctor is gifted in many ways. Turning words into thick plots and recording them in novels is just another talent for Sean Costello. He has shown the reader a balance between the real and the unreal in books like Captain Quad, The Cartoonist, Sandman, Eden's Eye, Finders Keeper, and Here After.

I remember reading the story of Captain Quad. The story begins with a teenager and his girlfriend joyriding down route 144 when suddenly they come face to face with a new reality when the bike comes head on with a transport. An air emergency unit arrives at the scene of the accident and air lifts the teenager to the Cambrian Hospital and a medical team, which includes the anaesthesiologist, precede to save what they can of the mangled body.

Long story short....the lad goes on to live but is left quadriplegic and confined to a bed and at the mercy of nursing care. He goes on to develop his sixth sense which gives him the ability to see beyond the realm or reality. With his clairvoyance ability he sees in the world of the doctor and of his girlfriend who has left him for another. With his astral projection ability he finds ways of leaving his dead body and experience the outer world reality. This book fascinates me as does the mind of people like Costello.

But he is just one person who ponders the extremes of reality. He has studied the theories of greats like Jung, and Freud who look deeply in the consciousness of humans to try to understand what makes us "we" in an "IT" world.

Do you feel safe in the hands of the modern sage ?

A look at being put to sleep brings up all types of questions about the mind and the body.

The scientific community often overlooks the third aspect of reality. The soul, or the hug as the Norsemen would have called it is often left out. Anaesthesiologists are governed by secular authorities. They practice their "craeft" by the pen of authors of authority who guide the realm of reality. Without the license the modern shaman is simply a shaman healer.

But do you trust someone to put you to sleep who is only concerned with your mind and body?

Holistic health is about mind, body, and soul, or spirit. The old shaman would never have left any of the three behind.

A very interesting hub, lbtrader. :)

Let me start at the end. I trust anesthesia providers. If the shamans of old were, they are nothing peculiar in turns of thinking. Of course there may be exceptions like Dr. Costello. :)

According to ancient Norse thought, hugr was one of the five layers of the human body: the mental body - our logical capacity, short and long-term memory and concentration. I believe by putting us to sleep, anesthesiologists give us the opportunity of mental rest.

You tell an interesting story about the boy who comes to possess special abilities. They are really nothing more than the ability to process information that doesn't come trough our five senses. If we enter into the habit of meditating muting our five senses we can develop an awareness of our 6th sense. There are many less known examples of people who did that in real life especially in earlier centuries. This is kind of a return to the time when we were still in our mother's womb and not yet developed the five senses. Scientific research and evil scientists who tortured fetuses in this stage by electroshock proved that they are aware of stimuli from the outside. So we have always had our 6th sense, we just lost connection to it because the other five are a bit more funky.

Please pardon my waffling. I said it was an interesting hub. :)
