how to get rid of snakes - repellent or plants
89How to get rid of snakes
Many people haven't got a clue about how to get rid of snakes. Homeowners, and cottagers are often faced with the problem of having a creepy unwanted serpent visitor and here are some methods commonly used as snake repellents or other methods of keeping snakes out of the house or cottage.
If killing the snake is the only solution then a few tips are included to help you to do that in a humane manner. If this task of ridding yourself of the slimy pest is too much for you and you don't feel you have the proper snake knowledge to do it yourself then it might be a job for a professional snake exterminator.

Snakes are a lot more than a creepy crawler. They are nature and nature of being human
Common snake ridding methods
Snakes are very healthy to have around as they keep several other critters at bay. They eat rats and other small mammals, they also eat insects. They are more of a hindrance to gardeners since they also feed on foliage.
So you have to determine whether your visiting snake - or should i say that creature who shares your universal space at this point in time - should be captured alive and repositioned geographically or whether the serpent needs to be fatally replaced to another dimension of reality...in other word is the death of a snake the answer to your current sharing of space problem.
If the answer to your well thought out snake problem is relocation or prevention of invasion then here are some common snake ridding methods.
- sulfur
- mothballs
- lime
- professional grade snake repellent
- landscaping changes
- snake traps
Natural Snake Repellents
Landscaping changes is perhaps the wisest choice of natural snake repellents. Most likely if you take precaution around your property you will be less likely to be looking to and the question "how to get rid of snakes".
What can i do to keep snakes away?
Snakes are attracted by woodpiles, shrubs, bushes, and thick gardens, as well as water ponds. Therefore keeping your house situated a distance away from these elements is a natural snake repellent. Mowing your lawn before it looks like a natural habitat for a snake is also suggested as a prevention. Getting rid of rats and mice is also on the list.
If you have done this and feel a need to further protect yourself the you can try lime, sulfur, or mothballls.
Try placing small sacks of mothballs in various areas you suspect serpents might find accomodating.
For sulfur and lime you would be looking to line doorways and holes in the ground with sulfur powder to keep those snakes away. This procedure needs to be repeated after heavy rains or wind gusts.
All of these methods used as natural snake repellents however have there drawbacks and science shows that they might cause more arm than good. They are also products that can arm the environment and should be used very carefully around children.
So what is the alternative ?

The professional stuff for repelling snakes
Professional grade snake repellents are not overly expensive.
Some of the more common brand names include:
- Snake-a-way
- Liquid Fence
- Snake Stopper
Dr T's Snake-A-Way product is the only EPA approved snake repellent product on the market. It contains some sulfur.
But before you go out and buy any of these products you might want to have a go a catching that snake by yourself with a product called snake trap.
Basically it's a mouse trap for a serpent.

I am glad that you found some valuable and interesting information Rynaldos.
My whole neighborhood is loaded with snakes, the ground is very fertile and moist. We have them in our basements and close to the house. We don't know how they get into the basements. All of the houses on my block have them. Some of the neighbors had caught 8 - 10 of them, in their yards. I use mothballs in my basement, and cans of repellent at the cheap dollar stores. I have 4 of them going off at one time. I have later gone down to the basement and found them dead. I can't put anything in the basement that is not sealed up. YES, I don't like snakes. Their habitat is outside. I think that the lime or sulfur could be useful. THANK YOU FOR THE ADDED INFORMATION.
